Posted: 14 Jan 2008 12:22 AM CST Tired of that same ole dime store mystery chocolate for Valentine’s Day? You know, the one you think is going to be filled with gooey caramel, but after taking a honking bite you discover to your horror it's the dreaded Pepto pink bubblegum flavor? Or if that sad stuffed white bear holding a fuzzy heart just reminds you that the glaciers are melting…then this is the post for you. From ethical-bling to eco-sex toys, kick up this year's Valentines Day and make yourself feel good about it. Here are a few suggestions. Every girl likes some buds. This time buy locally grown organic flowers from a farmers market. Conventional flowers come from places like South America or Holland. Save on gas and packaging materials by patronizing your local farmer. If you're having problems finding someplace locally, there are a few online companies offering an organic option. While these companies will ship the stems to your door, they don't use harmful pesticides that can rub off on your hands and hang out in your house. Try Organic Bouquet or Local Harvest. You and your honey will be healthier for it! Sure, downtown's Fancy Pantsy Bistro is where all the celebs go, but why not impress your Valentine by showing off your culinary chops? Tivo a couple of Food Network shows, visit your local farmer's market and go to town. Cooking's not for you? Grab a basket and swing by your favorite organic market. Pick up a few things that make a great oven-free picnic: Cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, chocolate, wine, ready made salads and sandwiches. Lay down a blanket and enjoy "nature"… if you catch my drift… Four words: Solar Powered Sex Toys. Yes, you read right. Now, if there's an earthquake or an apocalypse, at least you'll still have your favorite pastime. California Exotics Solar Sensations gives you an eco-friendly groove on again and again. Let the sun shine in! Or for something a little more tame, but possibly just as naughty, try sustainable undies, courtesy of American Apparel, Enamore Green Knickers or Bamboo Body. The eco-conscious company Bueno Style even offers some skimpy skivvies that say "Eat Organic" across the front. How… appropriate. You saw "Blood Diamond." Don't get caught up in that mess, no matter how good your South African accent is. Brilliant Earth is a company based out of San Francisco offering amazing conflict-free bling. They even have a large selection of ethical wedding and engagement rings if you're ready to pop the important eco-question: "Will you have an ethically responsible and sustainable wedding with me?" If you're the mood for something a little less mined, Green Karat uses recycled gold and diamonds in an effort to hinder the mining industry all together. If diamonds say a little too much too soon, try Fairies Dance, a company that uses recycled and renewable resources (like rainforest nuts) for their fun bobbles. Organic fair trade chocolate is always better because your guilt doesn't leave that pesky bitter aftertaste. Try companies like Green & Black's Organic Chocolate, Dagoba and Rapunzel Pure Organics for a great assortment of super sugary choco delights. Now that you've got all your supplies, turn up the Barry White, whip out the organic massage oil and kiss those bubblegum chocolates goodbye. It's time to get your sustainable love on. |
New Year’s Eve Countdown is going Green in 2008 Posted: 31 Dec 2007 09:10 PM CST Even though we are celebrating over here at Ecolosophy (Pass the bubbly please)… and counting down the New Year (auld Lang Syne in the background). We wanted to post that this year the Times Square Ball turns a century old and it’s doing it in green style! There is a new crystal ball in town and its lit with nearly 10,000 LED bulbs using only as much energy as about 10 toasters. Wow thats not a lot of toast especially in a town known for its bagels and lox, but all things being green thats something to celebrate! Check out the video of the new Waterford Crystal ball in action. HAPPY NEW YEAR! |
Victoria Beckham Receives A Dead Turkey Stuffed With Christmas Joy Posted: 30 Dec 2007 03:57 PM CST When exchanging gifts with that special vegetarian in your life, it's best to just put the present under the tree…NOT STUFF IT INSIDE A TURKEY!!! But don't take my word for it, just ask Posh Spice-A.K.A Victioria Beckham. This Christmas, Victoria was given a gift bag by celebrity skin care doctor, Neetu Nirdosh, M.D, with an array of products for her upcoming world tour. Oh yeah, except the actual gift bag wasn't a bag at all, but a dead turkey. That's right, in the spirit of the holidays, Dr. Neetu Nirdosh, decided it would be a good idea to stuff some skin care freebies into dead poultry carcasses and give them to celebrities as festive gifts. Apparently, Dr. Nirdosh didn't do his research or he would have learned that Victoria Beckham is a passionate vegetarian and animal lover. And as someone who himself is sans dead animal, I can freely say it's probably not the BEST idea to hide my figgy pudding inside a turkey…dead or alive. The Daily Express quoted a "source" close to Victoria, saying, "The thought of her using these products that have been stuffed inside a turkey is just nuts. She refuses to eat meat or wear fur so Victoria is far from impressed from it." I have heard of a lot of messed up things in my life, but this story definitely takes the cake…or should I say the giblets. Dr. Nirdosh, maybe you misunderstood- it's called stalking stuffer, not stalking stuffing. Listen, I can't tell you what she wants, what she really, really wants, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that!! You dummy! Copyright © 2007 ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip. |

The Year’s 10 Craziest Ways to Hack the Earth Posted: 22 Dec 2007 10:21 AM CST Scientists have come up with extreme — some might say crazy — schemes to counteract global warming. This year saw the most radical geo-engineering ideas yet: man-made volcanoes, orbiting mirror fleets and ocean re-engineering to cool the planet and absorb carbon dioxide. |
