City of Seattle Stops Buying Bottled Water!

The city could save as much as $58,000 a year, officials said, by not purchasing bottled water for events or water-cooler jugs for its workers. “When you look at the cost of bottled water, both in terms of financial costs and costs on the environment, it’s a pretty clear choice that using city water is a much better choice.”

A British scientist was awarded a prize for a formula which calculates the amount of water used in the production of all sorts of things. We don’t only consume water when we drink it, after all. 1 Hamburger requires 634 gallons of water to produce it!

The lightbulb of the future?

Luxim’s tiny plasma lightbulb outshines LEDs. The plasma bulb uses 250 watts, and achieves around 140 lumens/watt, making it very bright and highly efficient. By comparison, conventional lightbulbs and high-end LEDs get around 15 and 70 lumens/watt, respectively.
